No trace of ASF in Meghalaya  pig

SHILLONG: In a major relief, the results of tests conducted on 38 samples of pigs collected in the state have not shown any trace of African Swine fever. It has been informed by Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong.

“As of now, there are no confirmation of any pigs suffering from swine fever. The pigs in the State are affected by the local sickness,” Tynsong who is also in-charge Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department told reporters

He also said that the ban on import of pigs from outside and also inter-district movement of pigs was still in place. While informing that he has given direction to the officers in the different districts to be more vigilant and be more pro-active.

“We have also issued direction that they should respond immediately with medicines if there is no report of suspected cases of any pigs suffering from swine fever,” he said.

Meanwhile, Tynsong said that selling pork from the piggery from within the district is still allowed.

It was also advised that people should  consume pork only after cooking it adequately  ( above 70 degree centigrade  for at least  20 minutes even as the order added that the signs of high fever  in pigs  and any abnormal mortality should be brought to the notice of the concern authorities.
