SHILLONG: Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Chief Executive Member (CEM) Titos Chyne said that there is a need to set up a library in the Council to ensure that people get information about the Khasi tribe.
“There is no library of the Council which will collect information and knowledge about the history of the Khasis. There are many people who want to make a research study on traditions and customs,” he said, while delivering a speech to thank the newly-elected chairman, Pyniaid Sing Syiem.
Similarly, Congress MDC Nongstoin Gabriel Wahlang stressed on a research committee that checks facts in books about the traditions and customs of the Khasis.
“There are some writings that are misleading. The committee can validate the facts of the books and it should be accurate while writing about traditions and customs,” he said.
Speaking about the relevance of the KHADC in his speech, Bindo Lanong recalled that in the ‘90s, tribals from Madhya Pradesh visited the KHADC to get some ideas on having the same institution in the state. Again, there was a delegation from Jharkhand and Ladakh who visited the Council recently.
