SHILLONG: The Jaintia Students Union (JSU) War Jaintia Circle has lodged complaints against erroneous Electricity Bills in the Amlarem Sub Division.

The union under the leadership of General Secretary Kerrydiam Lamin wrote to office of MeECL at Jowai on June 12, 2020 stating that many consumers are receiving improper bills with tariff rates and fixed charges different from one village to another.

He said that there were instances where extra charges were being added to the current bill as outstanding even though the previous bill was already paid.

The union stated that some readings are also not proper as per the indication of the energy meter.

The JSU-WJC in its complaint letter has stated that there was no clear and specific definition on the rate of tariffs for these continuous months.

“Since the bill was not charged as per usual the bill charged at once for the 3 months is not in accordance to any tariff rates which could have been applicable only if is charged on per month basis with given rates specified for first 100 units and for next 100 units and so on”, he said.

The union demanded that a reevaluation is done with proper standard rates and correct charges.
