SHILLONG: The state unit of the BJP on Monday demanded that all MLAs submit to the people for scrutiny details of the Rs 25 lakh sanctioned to each of them for extending help to the needy during the pandemic.
The fund was part of the MLA scheme and was meant to be spent by the legislators for the purpose in their respective constituencies.
It may be mentioned that people are in the dark about the manner in which cash and essentials are supposed to be distributed.
Unlike guidelines laid down for MLA schemes, there was no specific direction from deputy commissioners on the manner of spending as the decision was a centralised one.
In a statement issued here, Mawrie lauded the Prime Minister for extending till November free distribution of foodgrains to 80 crore Indians among whom are the poorest facing hardship during the pandemic.
Mawrie urged the state government to see that the free foodgrains reach the targetted people. The party said it had earlier received complaints from different parts of the state, especially Garo Hills, that there were many anomalies in the distribution of PMGKAY.
He also appreciated the Centre’s stand on introducing ‘one nation one ration card’ which would help migrant labourers.
