SHILLONG: The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU), Shillong Circle, has urged the state government to disclose the names of the COVID 19 patients to the Dorbar Shnongs (village assemblies) of the state.

In a statement issued here, the Union also suggests that the names of patients should be disclosed only to the village assemblies and not to the public.

The union observed that with the help of the village assemblies, the government would be able to contain and control the rapid spread of this disease more effectively and called for the government’s close coordination with the village dorbar to arrest any potential community transmission.

The Union also said that the government should conduct a RT-PCR swab tests at the earliest in some villages and communities which are certain to have been exposed with the disease.

In view of the discrimination towards patients and frontline  health workers, the union has requested residents to refrain themselves from unwanted activities towards patients, medical staffs and other frontline workers of the state.

The Union is grateful for the initiative of the government to place the frontline workers such as the ANM and the ASHA to spread the much needed awareness (Behaviour Change Manangement Committee) among the people of the state in this fight against the COVID 19 in the state.
