MAWKYRWAT: The fiasco of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) in replacing or even repairing a damaged transformer at Kensimphlang village in South West Khasi Hills has brought misery to the villagers who have been subjected to darkness for over a month.
In this regard, a delegation of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) met the Assistant Executive Engineer of the Meghalaya Public Distribution Corporation Ltd (MPDCL), urging the latter to either replace or repair the transformer immediately.
“It has been more than a month that the transformer in our village has been damaged and MeECL has not been able to do anything to bring back electricity in our village. This has created a lot of problems to the people of Kensimphlang,” KSU president, Kensimphlang Unit, said.
He said the Union has also requested the Assistant Executive Engineer that it is time for the MPDCL to provide electricity to Mawlar, an area under Kensimphlang village.
The delegation also met the executive engineer, Mawkyrwat Division, and SDO Mawkyrwat Sub-Division of the PHE demanding drinking water facilities for Kensimphlang village including Mawlar.
“The officers told us that the department had already conducted survey to extend drinking water facilities to both Kensimphlang and Mawlar and had sent the proposal to the higher-up,” the KSU president said.
