SHILLONG: Amid growing concern over entry of outsiders in the state, especially during the ongoing pandemic, the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) Nongthymmai Circle apprehended some workers, allegedly from Bongaigaon, Assam, at Laitumkhrah Nongrimmaw on Monday and handed them to the police.
After receiving complaints from some residents, the HYC carried out a checking at Nongrimmaw on Sunday and Monday, following which it detected some people without valid documents such as work permit and labour license etc.
The organisation handed over the persons to the Laitumkhrah Police Station.
The HYC has warned house owners not to bring in any outsiders in view of the present pandemic situation.
Since the time COVID-19 cases started to spurt in the neighbouring Assam, pressure groups and the people in general have voiced their concern over the entry of Assam residents into Meghalaya.
Moreover, with Assam seeing a significant surge, the cry for not allowing people to enter the state has grown even louder.
