CSA appoints Williams as acting president; CEO Faul steps down
Johannesburg: Cricket South Africa on Tuesday named Beresford Williams as its acting president while also confirming that interim Chief Executive Officer Jacques Faul has stepped down from his post. The developments came after Chris Nenzani resigned as president with immediate effect on August 15. Williams will serve as president until the board’s annual general meeting scheduled for September 5. According to reports, Williams has been an administrator for more than 25 years and was the president of the Western Province Cricket Association before joining CSA. “…the Members’ Council has announced that Beresford Williams will fill the role of acting President until the AGM set for the 5th of September 2020,” CSA said in a statement. As per the statement, Faul, whose tenure was due to end on September 15, has resigned. He was appointed in December after the board had suspended its then chief executive officer Thabang Moroe amid allegations of misconduct. “Further, the Board advises that Acting CEO, Dr Jacques Faul, has decided to end his secondment with immediate effect, which secondment was due to terminate on the 15 of September 2020,” the statement read. Vinesh Phogat pulls out of natl camp
New Delhi: Star Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat will continue to train at her home in Bhiwani as she has refused to attend the national camp, starting from September 1 in Lucknow.The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) recently got a green signal from the Sports Authority of India (SAI) to hold national camp from next month, despite the fact that many wrestlers were ‘against it’.Speaking to IANS, Vinesh said she has requested the federation to let her train alone and be exempted from the camp.”Yes, I am not going to attend the camp. I have informed the federation about it and they have given me the permission (so far),” laughed Vinesh.”Coronavirus cases are rising and I don’t want to take any risk. So, I thought of giving camp a skip for the time being,” added the Tokyo-bound wrestler.Meanwhile, Bajrang Punia and Pooja Dhanda have confirmed their participation.A total of 26 wrestlers in eight weight categories — five in freestyle and three in Greco Romanewill take part in the month-long camp.The women’s camp will be held in Lucknow with 15 wrestlers including Pooja, Sakshi Malik and Divya Kakran. And the men’s camp will be held in Sonepat where Bajrang and Narsingh Yadav will be seen in action. (IANS)
