SHILLONG: The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) Shillong circle has written to the Director of NEIGRIHMS with suggestions to ease the process of blood donation.
The union said that there is no priority given to blood donors and they have to wait for a very long time to complete the testing procedure as no separate facility is provided. Now, when NEIGRIHMS is overwhelmed with COVID testing, the waiting duration becomes longer.
The union said that besides adherence to the national guidelines on blood transfusion in light of the pandemic, the hospital should come up with a safe coordinated passage for blood donors.
The union has urged the Director that the testing process be expedited on a priority basis for blood donors which will encourage more donors to contribute.
“Open up an online registration link or a telephone help desk facility only for blood donors where donors can do advance registration and thence be called for the testing at an appointed time/slot to avoid overcrowding and speed up the blood donation procedure”, the release said.
The union said that the hospital should identify a special and segregated waiting area only for blood donors, who need to undergo COVID-19 testing, and a separate area for those eligible for blood donation.
