BSF calls on police to combat cattle smuggling

SHILLONG: Amid apprehensions of cattle smuggling syndicate gearing up to take advantage of the easing of restrictions, the Border Security Force (BSF), on Thursday, called upon the police and other agencies to coordinate and launch special operation with BSF to nip the menace in the bud.
“There have been reports about the cattle smuggling syndicate trying to revive the Siliguri-Kahanapara-Nongpoh route to supply cattle for smuggling not only in East Khasi Hills but also Garo Hills”, the BSF said in a statement, while adding that nefarious module of Indian and Bangladesh cattle smugglers has began taking shape again.
Meanwhile, the BSF troops, deployed along the international border, seized 17 cattle heads worth over Rs 3 lakh on Thursday and 26 cattle in East Khasi Hills worth over Rs 2 lakh, which were later handed over to the police.
