No neglect of non-COVID patients: Govt

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Government has refuted the opposition allegations that it has neglected other ailments due to COVID-19.
Replying to the allegations made by Congress MLAs, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Tuesday said that it was baseless and unjustified for the Opposition to say that the state government had neglected other ailments due to COVID-19.
“This is totally wrong. The question of neglecting does not arise,” Tynsong told reporters.
The statement of the Deputy Chief Minister came after Congress leader Ampareen Lyngdoh, while expressing shock on the issue of 877 newborns and 61 pregnant women dying in a span of four months had stated that the investment of the government on other cases is zero when the death rate is so high and whereas Government had spent over Rs 29 crore for COVID-19 with 8-9 deaths.
The Deputy Chief Minister however reasoned that just because the government was fighting COVID 24×7, it does not mean the other normal  ailments were not being attended to.
He said that there has been no instance of people suffering from other ailments being not treated and there are no PHCs and CHCs that have been closed down.
