SHILLONG: The troops of Border Security Force (BSF), on Thursday, seized fake currency worth Rs 96,000 from a Bangladeshi national along the Indo-Bangla border.
Acting on inputs, the troops intercepted and nabbed Badal Ramjan (66), resident of Sunamganj district of Bangladesh, with fake currency notes amounting to Rs 96,000, which was allegedly meant to be smuggled into India.
Few days ago, the BSF troops had also recovered arms and ammunitions in the same area.
In another incident, BSF troops, deployed in West Jaintia Hills, apprehended two persons along with a vehicle loaded with dry pea worth over Rs 8 lakh. All seized items and the person were handed over to Meghalaya Police.
“There have been signs that cattle and fake Indian currency note (FICN) smuggling syndicates are again gearing up and trying to revive the supply of such illegal activities as used to be in the pre-lockdown scenario,” said UK Nayal, DIG/PRO, while emphasising that special operations in coordination with various forces to thwart such untoward activities are imperative.
