MAWKYRWAT: Incessant rainfall has created a stumbling block to carrying out search operation to find the last two persons out of the eight who went missing on Tuesday after the Tihiang River in Warsan Lyngdoh area, South West Khasi Hills, swept away a jeep in which the group was travelling.
Official sources informed that Fire & Emergency Service and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team of home guards along with some of the locals have started search operations beginning Thursday morning. However, heavy downpour, which has caused the water level to rise, made operations a difficult task. Out of the eight people on board the vehicle, which was swept away by strong current of the Tihiang River, two had managed to swim to safety, while six others including a child went missing. The bodies of four persons have been retrieved so far and two persons are still missing.
Sources said that rescue teams are stationed at the site and the search operation will continue again on Friday.
