SHILLONG: A reporter from Kynjatshai, who was on his way home, was assaulted by a man on Wednesday at Bañiun Upper Shillong.
The man, who was identified as Deng Deng Phira, was in an inebriated condition, when he perpetrated the assault.
It is learnt that Phira stood in the middle of the road, blocked the office vehicle and also snatched the car keys from the driver.
When the reporter went to ask for the key, he was verbally abused and strangled.
Phira then physically assaulted the scribe and threatened to kill him. However, people from the neighborhood came to the reporter’s rescue and caught hold of Phira.
The next day, the victim along with other reporters lodged a complaint against Phira, who was subsequently arrested.
