NONGSTOIN: The FKJGP Langpih unit, on Sunday expressed concern over the delay of the district administration of West Khasi Hills to allow the re-opening of Langpih market which was closed since the pandemic started.
With the shutting down of the only market in the area for a very long time, the people living in Langpih are facing with a lot of problems as they have no other option but to go as far as Nongstoin to purchase essential commodities.
The federation has demanded the deputy commissioner to intervene and grant permission for reopening of the market.
They pointed out that other markets in the district — Nongstoin, Mairang markets are opened for the people with strict protocols put in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The same rule can be applied in Langpih market, they added.
Marbor Nonglang, president of FKJGP said that the delay in opening of Langpih market is the only reason that prompted the Nepalese community to set up a new market which is now operational near the police camp of Assam.
The federation has once demanded the deputy commissioner to intervene and to stop people from other communities to set up a new market as this would affect the business of the local people who depended mostly on Langpih market as their main source of income.
