Govt asked to revoke order on elephant reserve

 SHILLONG: The HSPDP on Thursday asked the State Government to revoke the order on declaring parts of West Khasi Hills as an elephant reserve.

The Central Executive Committee of HSPDP which met on Thursday took a serious note on the notification issued by the Forest department in this regard.

The general secretary of HSPDP, EK Raswai, said after the meeting that as the land belongs to the people, the Government cannot away take the rights of people.

The elephant reserve was notified by the Government without consulting the people who own the land, he said, adding that since the government does not own the land, the decision cannot be taken arbitrarily by the Government.

HSPDP, the oldest political party in the state has decided to accept nominations within September from those candidates who are desirous of contesting the Assembly elections.

The general secretary of HSPDP, EK Raswai, said that the meeting of the Central Executive Committee of HSPDP held on Thursday decided to ask all the district units to recommend the names of candidates to the state election committee of the party within this month.

The HSPDP will also create two district units of the party in view of the creation of East Jaintia Hills and South West Khasi Hills districts.
