TURA, Feb 3: West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh on Wednesday called a meeting with various stakeholders to discuss issues concerning Tura town in compliance with the various instructions and orders from HC, NGT and the Legislative Assembly Committee.
The issues discussed during the meeting include, Traffic and parking, Solid Waste Management, Water Supply, beautification and decongestion of various junctions and Street lighting besides others.
With regard to traffic and parking, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh officials concerned to review parking and no parking zones in crowded areas at different times and days adding that these zones need to be marked. He urged the department to fixed boarding and deboarding areas for bus and auto which is to be looked after by a committee under DSP (Traffic). Ram Singh also informed that the ISBT at Chasingre would be restarted soon to prevent decongestion in the town.
Regarding Solid Waste Management, Ram Singh urged the people to segregate waste and directly hand it over to the visiting garbage truck. A direction was also given to the TMB to hold discussions with the various localities so that people are discouraged from dumping garbage in streams and water bodies.
The progress in the Tura Water Supply Scheme was also discussed during the meeting where it was informed that a visit would soon be paid to the areas facing water crisis. A direction was also given to the PHE to coordinate with localities and District Council Water supply department to plug the leakages and streamline the water supply.
The Deputy Commissioner also informed that beautification and decongestion of various junctions is being undertaken under the direction of Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma and the local MLA, and urged the people to cooperate.
According to Ram Singh, sanctions from Urban Affairs for LED lighting have also been received by the TMB which will be implemented next week onwards. Ram Singh also said that the Urban affairs department would be moved to clear pending bills of MePDCL to avoid black outs and to repair solar lights.
The DC also informed of the initiative being taken by the Social Forestry department to assist localities to carry out Bamboo and other species plantation in various streams and localities under Tura to avoid landslides and for Beautification beginning March this year.
It was also informed that Inspection of progress of various roads and other projects under CMSUDF , MPLAD and other schemes in Tura Town would be carried out starting Saturday and new projects will also be proposed based on these visits.
