SHILLONG: The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel on Saturday recovered the body of the third student, Prapik Chettri (16), who had drowned along with two others while swimming at the Spread Eagles Fall, Umkaliar on Thursday afternoon.

The bodies of Manio Chachai (17) and K Jowel Marin (17) were recovered following search operations on Friday.

The three were Class XI students of BSF Senior Secondary School, Shillong.

Earlier, on receiving information about the incident, BSF troops were mobilised and rescue operations were launched in collaboration with the State Police and Fire Service.

However, the bodies could not be recovered on the first day as the place of occurrence was very deep and there was requirement of deep divers.

Subsequently, NDRF personnel were rushed to the spot from Guwahati to locate the bodies of the drowned victims.

The divers could at first take out only two bodies. However, after much difficulty, the body of the third victim was also recovered.

Meanwhile, the BSF has clarified that the three students were day scholars and didn’t attend the school on the day of the incident.
