SHILLONG, March 30: In the wake of the ensuing MDC elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), which is just around the corner, Deputy Chief Minister and senior NPP leader, Prestone Tynsong, has expressed optimism that the party will win at least 17-18 seats in the polls scheduled for April 12.
“The chief minister is busy campaigning daily and we are in a very good position. We will be able to get not less than 17-18 seats,” the NPP leader said here on Tuesday.
Asked if anti-incumbency factor would be a major concern for the NPP, Tynsong, while explaining that the elections in Autonomous District Councils are different from MLA elections, said he does not see any kind of anti-incumbency factor affecting the party.
The campaigning for the MDC elections to the GHADC picked up momentum in Garo Hills and while NPP is going all out convening large public meetings as its campaign, the Congress, on the other hand, seems to be campaigning stealthily.
The GHADC polls will be held on April 12 and the counting of votes will take place on April 15.
Apart from Congress and NPP, this time around, the BJP and even the UDP is pressing itself to win majority of the seats in the Council.
Earlier, the Meghalaya Cabinet had decided to reschedule the elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council to April 12 and the counting of votes to April 15.
