Villagers condemn woman’s ‘murder’

NONGPOH, April 5: Women, children and men alike from Lumnongrim Dewlieh village under Umsning in Ri Bhoi, on Monday, took to the streets holding candles in condemnation of the alleged murder of a woman by her spouse recently.
Led by the Seng Kynthei Pyllun Lumnongrim Dewlieh and different pressure groups, the villagers held prayers and lit candles at Lad Zero Point, Umsning, in remembrance of the deceased lady.
Condemning the alleged murderer, the people of Lumnongnongrim Dewlieh urged the police to take stern action against the criminal so as to ensure that such crimes are not committed against women in the future.
According to the brother of the victim, Banshanskhem Rumnong, the woman went missing since March 13, 2021.
The family members were informed that she had gone to meet her husband on that fateful day following which she failed to return home.
In suspicion, the family members filed a complaint with Lumdingjri Police Station, and an FIR was lodged, alleging that her husband, identified as Dionisius Marbaniang, was involved in the disappearance of the woman.
Later, the police found her body in Umshing River, Mawlai.
