SHILLONG: Congress in Mawkynrew has received a boost when several senior leaders of both UDP and MDP have joined the party to support the candidature of Banteidor Lyngdoh.
Banteidor Lyngdoh, a Congress ticket aspirant, is planning to contest the upcoming Assembly election from Mawkynrew.
The UDP and MDP leaders associated themselves with Congress during an ambulance launching function at Jongksha on Tuesday.

The UDP leaders who decided to associate with the Congress were the party’s Mawkynrew circle president Markan Lyngdoh, general secretary Keston Lawai and women’s wing chief adviser Mela Songthiang.
From MDP, senior party leader Jroin Kharkongor and the party’s women wing chief Paka Kharbihthai joined Congress. While welcoming the leaders of the UDP and MDP, Mawkynrew Block Congress Committee (MBCC) president Teilang Blah said the coming of the leaders of the UDP and MDC will boost the party’s prospect in the upcoming election.
Meanwhile, UDP Mawkynrew Circle president Markan Lyngdoh said, “For the past several years, we have been sending our representatives to the Assembly from the regional party. There is general feeling among the masses that this time a Congressman should represent the constituency”.
