SHILLONG, May 15: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has had an informal discussion with new Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on the need to resume the chief minister-level talks on the long-pending interstate boundary dispute, claimed HSPDP president KP Pangniang after meeting Conrad Sangma on Saturday.
According to Pangniang, the chief minister revealed that he spoke to Himanta on the matter after the HSPDP raised the issue of the interstate boundary dispute during the discussion.
The chief minister said that CM-level talks on the issue will happen in the near future, informed HSPDP president.
The first-ever CM-level talks on interstate boundary row involving the ruling MDA coalition and Assam government has not yet materialised as it continues to be deferred due to various reasons. Sangma was supposed to meet former Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal last year to discuss the boundary dispute. However, it was postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are hopeful that the talks will finally be held,” Pangniang added.
