MLA helps COVID patients in Mawlai

SHILLONG, May 23: Congress MLA from Mawlai PT Sawkmie, on Saturday, provided essential commodities to the residents of Mawlai who were under home quarantine after testing positive for COVID-19.
These affected people from Mawïongrim, Mawïong Umjapung, Nongkwar, Umthlong, Ïewrynghep, Nonglum, Nongpdeng, Umjaiur, Phudmuri, Mawdatbaki, Mawroh and Mawkynroh Umshing. Earlier, the MLA had donated PPE kits to the Dorbar Shnong of Mawlai Mawdatbaki, Mawlai Nongpdeng and other localities.
Speaking at a brief programme which was held at the Indoor Sports Hall at Mawdatbaki, the Mawlai legislator informed that the state government is planning to provide Dorbar Shnongs the responsibility to carry out the funeral of people who died of COVID-19 in their respective localities.
He said that the Dorbar Shnong need to deliberate on whether they are ready take the responsibility, if such a request comes from the government.
The Congress legislator also said that around 250 to 300 people have been tested positive for COVID-19 in the whole of Mawlai, while adding that seven from Mawlai Mawdatbaki alone have died of COVID-19. The bereaved families were facing difficulties to get the JCB for digging the grave after three people died on the same day of COVID-19, he added.
