SHILLONG, June 23: MDA Spokesperson James Sangma has toed the line in the alleged diversion of foodgrains under a central scheme maintaining that it is “premature” to make a statement on the matter till all facts are in place.
Asked whether the government favours an inquiry into the allegations as demanded by the Opposition, James said, “The Chief Minister has said that there has been no shortage in terms of the supply of foodgrains. Thus, one can deduce that none of the foodgrain has been misappropriated or have been diverted elsewhere”.
Demanding a probe into the allegation, the Opposition Congress contention is that a proper probe would let the people know why the Assam Police confiscated 12-15 trucks of rice bags allocated for an important scheme to ensure supplementary nutrition for adolescents and children.
