SHILLONG, July 18: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has asserted that the struggle undertaken by legendary Khasi freedom fighter U Tirot Sing Syiem, who fought against the misrule of the British, is not over, as according to the organisation, there is an ongoing fight against those engaged in “blatant corruption”.
“We are motivated by the resistance of the legendary patriot who was committed to protect our land from the British. We are now taking the lead to fight against people who are engaged in blatant corruption,” Robertjune Kharjahrin said while speaking at a small gathering of the HYC members to pay tributes to the Khasi freedom fighter at Mairang on his 186th death anniversary on Saturday.
Kharjahrin said that they will continue to be vocal about corruption in the MeECL and in other departments.
“We will continue to demand the implementation of ILP for protection of the indigenous population. We would also raise the issue for resolving the long-pending interstate boundary dispute,” he added. On the day, HYC members also paid floral tribute to recall the sacrifice of the freedom fighter.
