SHILLONG, July 27: The Opposition alliance in the KHADC — United Democratic Front (UDF) — on Tuesday demanded a meeting of all the 30 MDCs on the incident where Assam police personnel allegedly uprooted electricity poles erected by MeECL at Iongkhuli village in Ri Bhoi on Monday.
The UDF also extended its support to Mawhati MDC, Charles Marngar, who was allegedly manhandled by Assam Police.
Talking to reporters, Marngar said that he had asked the Assam Police to furnish the documents which directed them to remove the electric poles. According to him, the Assam Police accused him of trying to interfere.
He claimed that the area falls under Raid Marwet, Hima Mylliem. “I was disappointed since they had removed the electricity poles without listening to the arguments of the villagers,” the Mawhati MDC had said.
Marngar also mentioned that he had called Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong to inform about this incident. “It tried to call Tynsong again but he did not respond,” Marngar alleged.
UDF chairman and former CEM, PN Syiem, has strongly condemned the Assam Police for allegedly manhandling the Mawhati MDC.
Syiem also informed that he will be writing to KHADC CEM Titosstarwell Chyne to immediately call a meeting of all the MDCs to discuss this matter.
