SHILLONG: Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh has come under fire from the Opposition for not taking any initiative to set up a police outpost at Psiar bordering Jaintia Hills and Karbi Anglong as the people of the area are facing threat of militants.

To a query by ECB Bamon (NCP) during the Question Hour, the Home Minister said that the Government had not initiated any steps to set up a police outpost at Psiar.

Lyngdoh in his reply highlighted that since crime rate was negligible at Psiar, there was no demand from the general public to set up the police outpost. He also said that the Government was not aware of any harassment to the people of Psiar.

Bamon, however, pointed out that the Minister had assured in the House during the last session that an outpost will be set up in Psair. He also apprised the House that there is undue harassment of people by the Karbi Anglong based militants as Psair is close to the Assam border.

James Sangma (NCP) and Ardent Basiawmoit (UDP) have also expressed their concern over the delay on the part of the Government to set up the Police outpost.

Annoyed over the delay on the matter, the Leader of Opposition, Conrad Sangma wanted to know whether the Government will wait for the people, ministers and MLAs to die before it provides security.

In supplementary question, Paul Lyngdoh (UDP) wanted to compare the security provided to Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh with that of the people of Psair.

However, the Speaker asked Lyngdoh not to make any personal comments about the Home Minister while asking question and insisted that he should rephrase the question.
