Stone quarry owners asked to collect notice

NONGPOH, Aug 19: Proprietors of illegal stone crusher units and stone quarries in Ri Bhoi have been directed to collect the Environmental Compensation notice as their addresses could not be traced.
An order from Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner in this regard also asked such proprietors to visit the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi, Revenue Branch (Room No. 121) during office hours by August 26.
“Failure to comply with the above direction will attract legal action against your unit/quarry as deemed fit under the law – Smti. Mati Nongrum, Smti. Martina Tariang, Concord L.T, Jyoti Agarwal of Killing village, Shyamlal, Rajesh Agarwal, Giri Mohanta, Dinesh Sharma, Anchu Agarwal of Umtyrnga Chibra village, Tanmay Bordoloi and Anu Basumatri, Halodor Dolloi, Pappu Agarwal (Dinesh Agarwal) of Barapathar village and Niraj Agarwala of Maikhuli village,” the order said. It may be mentioned that the move comes after Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board issued a notice for imposition of Environmental Compensation as per the order of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on such illegal stone crusher units and stone quarries located in Ri Bhoi.
