Illegal sawmill busted in WGH
TURA, Sep 8: Officials of the Forest Department along with police on Wednesday conducted a raid and closed down an illegal sawmill in West Garo Hills. According to sources, following a tip off Forest officials of the West and South West Garo Hills Territorial Division along with police raided the illegal sawmill at Kalapani area of Chibinang under Hollaidanga Range resulting in the seizure of various machineries used in the illegal sawmill. The Forest Department has informed of more such operations to follow.

State NIT gets natl recognition
SHILLONG, Sep 8: The Centre for Education, Growth and Research (CEGR) has recognised National Institute of Technology (NIT) Meghalaya as the best institute in North East, 2021. CEGR, one of the premier think tanks in India, has also recognised the Director of NIT Meghalaya, Prof. BB Biswal, as Visionary Leader of the Year, 2021. Both the awards were given away during the 15th Rashtriya Shiksha Gaurav Purushkar Ceremony, 2021 held in New Delhi, through virtual mode.

Clan thanks govt for memorial
SHILLONG, Sep 8: The Syiemlieh clan has appreciated the state government as well as the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for setting up the Tirot Sing Memorial at the Cultural Centre of Indian High Commission in Dhaka, Bangladesh. President of Kur Syiemlieh, S Syiemlieh, also expressed gratitude to Commissioner and Secretary of Arts and Culture, Frederick R Kharkongor for making perfect reparation of supporting to honour the legacy of the Khasi freedom fighter at the Indian Commission in Dhaka.
