M’laya joins pan-India launch of legal awareness, outreach prog

SHILLONG/TURA, Oct 2: Meghalaya on Saturday joined the pan-India launch of legal awareness and outreach programme organised as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.
According to a statement on Saturday, the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority organised a bike rally and cleaning drive to mark the launch here.
Meghalaya High Court Chief Justice Biswanath Somadder, during the launch event, flagged off the bike rally from the premises of the High Court. The rally covered major areas of Shillong.
The Chief Justice, during the event, accentuated the need to make justice accessible to all.
The Officer on Special Duty, Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority, TT M Sangma, spoke on the significance of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and the events planned till November 14 by the Legal Services Institutions of Meghalaya.
The Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority also organised a cleaning drive later at Khyndai Lad, Keating Road, Jail Road and Bivar Road.
The cleaning drive was organised in collaboration with Meghalaya High Court, District Legal Services Authority, Shillong, and East Khasi Hills District Administration, PWD, Police department, Team Jiva, Lions Club and residents from Police Bazaar, Keating Road, Jail Road, Bivar Road, Secretariat Hill and Oakland Road.

Meanwhile, in West Garo Hills, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority, organised a cleaning drive on the premises of District and Sessions Judge Court and Judicial Magistrate Court Complex to mark the pan-India launch of the programme.
It also organised a cleaning drive at police stations in collaboration with the Office of the Superintendent of Police and at Sella Wari in collaboration with the Nokmas and villagers of Dalmagre, Gongronggre, Songkonggre, Do.renggre, Sasatgre, Do.pananggre, Wa.kantagre and Asibra.
