Dengue cases on the rise in Tura, 36 infected

TURA, Nov 6: There is considerable concern in Tura and its adjoining areas where dengue cases continue to be reported since the last two weeks, compelling the district administration to hold a review meeting with health officials on the rising cases of dengue.
So far, 36 cases of dengue have been reported in Tura town, with the highest number of infections detected in the areas of Hawakhana and the Tura Civil Hospital.
In the light of spiralling dengue cases in West Garo Hills, particularly in Tura, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh, convened a meeting with the District Vector Borne Disease Control Officer and the representatives of the localities at DRDA Conference Hall, Tura, on Friday.
During the meeting, the DC urged the concerned authorities to closely monitor the situation and to take preventive measures in both urban and rural areas in order to check the spread of dengue. He also informed that a testing centre for dengue is functional at Tura Civil Hospital.
Stressing on the need to make people aware about the gravity of the situation and to take precautionary measures, the DC also urged the representatives of the localities to support and cooperate with the concerned authorities to tackle the spread of dengue.
He also asked the representatives  to hold timely meetings in their respective localities and sensitise the people in tackling the viral disease.
During the meeting, the District Vector Borne Disease Control Officer highlighted the symptoms of dengue, types of dengue, transmission of dengue from mosquitoes to human, roles of various laboratories on NVBDCP, methods and tools for vector control, etc.
The officer also informed that 36 cases so far have been reported from the urban area and the maximum cases have been reported from Tura Civil Hospital quarters and Hawakhana in Tura.
