TURA, Nov 21: BJP MDC in the GHADC from Tura Bernard N Marak on Sunday accused the Meghalaya government of not properly implementing the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) also known as low cost house in the state which was promised for every household by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“People had high hopes on the promises made by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi that there should not be “kutcha” houses but “pucca” houses to all poor families. In Meghalaya, the rich and powerful plays politics in availing this scheme to the poor. It is a fact that State Government delayed this scheme and PMAY (U) is going to be a failure in the state in spite of the Centre Government releasing crores of rupees for low cost houses for the poor,” Marak said in a statement.
Bernard said that the scheme was a non starter in the state due to Government’s negligence and bad policies on central schemes and cited the example of Tura.
“In Tura, around 1299 women applied for PMAY (U) in 2016. The Centre Government approved 3 beneficiaries in 2017-18, 566 beneficiaries got approval in 2018-19 and another 50 beneficiaries got approved in 2019-20 totalling to 619 beneficiaries in urban area itself. The total amount sanctioned for Tura alone is Rs 9,28,50,000/-. None of the beneficiaries were contacted till the matter was raised byme,” the Tura MDC claimed.
According to Bernard, the beneficiaries were kept in the dark with no official information by the concerned departments who blamed each other when the issue was raised.
The Tura MDC also informed that his party was gathering all reports from different areas and the same would be sent to the PM office soon.
