Opposition to electricity amendment bill
SHILLONG, Dec 9: The Coordination Committee of Registered MeECL Employees Association and Union (CCORMAU) has registered its opposition to the Electricity Amendment Bill, 2021. In this regard, a memorandum was also submitted to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma by the CCORMAU. Drawing the attention of the chief minister to the ongoing nationwide protest against the proposed Electricity Amendment Bill 2021, general secretary of CCORMAU, BK Nongkhlaw, said, “The National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers (NCCOEE) has decided that in case the Centre moves the amendment bill in the current session of the Parliament then on the same day work boycott along with a daylong demonstration will be observed across the country”. Nongkhlaw further stated that CCORMAU being a constituent of NCCOEE will also participate in the work boycott on the day the proposed amendment bill is placed in the Parliament.

Prohibition of vehicle checking on highways, weighbridges in Ri Bhoi
NONGPOH, Dec 9: The District Magistrate, Ri Bhoi, has prohibited any person/group of persons or NGOs for conducting checking of loaded vehicles along the national highway and weighbridges without the permission from the deputy commissioner. The order has been issued in the wake of some group of persons or NGOs resorting to unauthorised and illegal checking of loaded vehicles along the highway and on weighbridges, which may lead to breakdown of law and order, the order said.
