SHILLONG: The BJP candidate for 1-Nartiang Constituency, Veecare Nicia Lamare on Tuesday filed a complaint to the Election Commission Observer, West Jaintia Hills District against the non co-operation by the village authorities of various localities in conducting a public meeting.

“The village authorities refused and prohibited me to conduct my public meeting in Namdong, Modymmai and Umladang for the general elections to the 1-Nartiang Constituency of Meghalaya State Legislative Assembly”, Lamare said in a statement issued here on Tuesday.

In another letter to the District Election Officer, the BJP candidate lodged a complaint against the Headman of Myrjai, Ummulong and Ksehrynshang village for not informing the village members of her public meeting.

“The public meeting was fixed and the respective Headmen were informed but was never announced to the members” the woman candidate said adding that this an illegal and unfair act of the Headman’s as the very foundation of our democracy as a Parliamentary Constituency is defeated.
