SHILLONG, Jan 19: Expressing dissatisfaction with the manner in which the resignation of Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) general secretary, Chiranjib Choudhury, came about, former working president of the MSOA, Robert Garnett Lyngdoh, on Wednesday resigned from his post as the Advisor to the association with immediate effect.
Chiranjib Choudhury had resigned last week.
“The circumstances leading to and the manner in which the former general Secretary of the association has resigned from his post has left a very bad taste in my mouth. In fact, as you are aware, the influence of a prominent pressure group in the state was used to facilitate this resignation,” Lyngdoh said in a letter to MSOA president, Banteidor Lyngdoh, who is also the Sports and Youth Affairs Minister.
Lyngdoh said that the secular nature of the constitution of the association is only as good as the people entrusted to protect and implement it. “I cannot remain a bystander as it is violated,” Lyngdoh said.
Earlier, one of the pressure groups had demanded that all non-tribals who are holding various posts in different sports associations should step down.
Even though Choudhury had cited personal commitments to his family and business for his resignation, what was a surprise is that the MSOA immediately installed Meghalaya Athletics Association (MAA) general secretary, Finely Pariat, as the new general secretary of the association.
Reacting to the resignation of RG Lyngdoh, MSOA working president, John F Kharshiing, said that he has just received the information from the office of the association that Lyngdoh has resigned from his post.
“We feel that the resignation of Lyngdoh is a great loss to the Association. We will discuss this in the annual general body meeting of the MSOA,” Kharshiing added.
