SHILLONG, Jan 19: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) MLA from North Shillong, Adelbert Nongrum, on Wednesday announced that his sit-in demonstration will continue in an attempt to push his four demands other than the extension of the upper age limit.
Notably, the KHNAM legislator had recently launched his strike at Malki ground in support of the demands for relaxation of the upper age limit for recruitment to government services from 32 to 37 years, creation of a separate state cadre, relocation of Harijan Colony and resolving the long-pending boundary dispute. However with the cabinet deciding to comply with the demand for relaxation of the upper age limit, Nongrum’s four other demands still remain “unfulfilled.” “Yes, I know one of the demands has been fulfilled by the government. But the other four demands which I have raised remain unfulfilled,” Nongrum said while speaking to reporters.
Informing reporters further on his agenda, Nongrum said that he will be holding a public meeting on January 21 at Malki ground by boycotting the golden jubilee celebrations of 50 years of statehood. Responding to a query, the KHNAM legislator also said that he has no problem if the MDA partners decide to remove him from the coalition.
