TURA, Jan 21: A complaint that was made to the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner alleging various anomalies including the misappropriation of sanctioned funds for various development works at Gandhimari VEC under Demdema C&RD Block in West Garo Hills, is yet to be inquired upon as per the complainant from the Gandhimari VEC, Abdus Sobur.
Sobur had apparently based his complaint on information on an RTI and sought an inquiry into the anomalies to the DC on Nov 7. However he alleged nothing in terms of inquiring has even begun.
Sobur claimed that the reply to the RTI, which although did not provide the required information, revealed that various anomalies and misappropriation had taken place with regard to construction of land development projects at the village.
He further claimed that while Rs 11,26,620 out of the total amount of Rs 11,31,650 was meant for wages of labourers, the amount has not been properly provided to them. The complainant also alleged that sub standard work has been done on the project.
According to Sobur, many duplicate job card holders’ names have been entered in various VECs without the knowledge of the genuine job card holders pointing to the fact that misappropriation of funds have taken place.
Sobur urged the Deputy Commissioner to ensure the inquiry was undertaken so that action could be taken against those responsible for the siphoning of money meant for them.
