NONGSTOIN, Jan 29: Peeved at being allegedly charged exorbitantly at a toll gate at Kynshi, truckers and coal traders set ablaze the same on Friday.
The truckers and coal traders have alleged that the toll gate at Kynshi is owned by a group of individuals linked with Mawthadraishan MLA, Brolding Nongsiej. They have also alleged that the so-called workers on the toll gate would collect Rs 1,500 to 2,000 per truck without issuing receipt or any other valid document.
However, on Friday, the infuriated truckers and coal traders refused to pay the toll charge following which they were debarred from proceeding further. It was following this, they torched the toll gate although no one was injured in the course.
Now, the cherry on the cake is that police have given the lie to the existence of any such toll gate at Kynshi.
Speaking with The Shillong Times, Eastern West Khasi Hills Superintendant of Police, Maxwell B Syiem, informed that police have initiated a suo motu case against the miscreants, while informing that they had torched a house which was used to store firewood.
Meanwhile, no one has been arrested in connection with the case till the filing of this report.
