SHILLONG, Feb 2: Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Wednesday said the Union Budget has some shortcomings when it comes to rural areas.
“It may be good for urban areas but for rural areas, there is a constraint,” he said.
He noted the allusion to a digital university and a 13-20% increase of allocation of funds for education over the 2021-22 budget.
He admitted to not receiving the details of the budget but hoped the government would compensate for the loss education has suffered in recent times.
“The state will work together with the Centre for the benefit of the students in the state and beyond,” he said.
The budget has focused on digital education with the creation of a digital university, agricultural universities and skill development of programmers.
Budget 2022-23 has allocated Rs 1,04,278 crore to education, an increase of Rs 11,054 crore from the previous fiscal. Education experts had feared a cut since the allocation for 2021-22 was 6% less than for 2020-21.
