SHILLONG, Feb 12: State All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) leader, Mukul M. Sangma on Saturday said the state government’s recent decision to ease COVID-19 restrictions conveyed its inability to understand things in-depth.
“One has to work hard to do things correctly and get the desired results. This government has no time for hard work and for understanding the gravity of a situation,” he said.
The MDA government just copy-pastes strategies from other states and a case in point was the easing of COVID-19 curbs after the Assam government decided to do so, he added.
Sangma said the government started imposing restrictions immediately after the New Year.
“That was only after a few people who went to other states for work or studies had already returned for the Christmas vacation with the virus,” he said.
People in the state started getting infected by December and when the cases started rising, the restrictions were reduced, Sangma said.
The state government had recently decided to ease the COVID-19 curbs following a review meeting.
Many people in the city were seen violating the COVID-19 protocols by not wearing masks properly and not bothering to maintain physical distance.
86 fresh cases, two deaths
The state on Saturday recorded 86 fresh cases of COVID-19 while two more patients succumbed to the viral infection in the past 24 hours taking the death toll to 1,561.
One death was recorded in East Khasi Hills and one in Eastern Western Khasi Hills.
The active tally stands at 850 while 90,522 people have recovered from the viral infection including 162 on the day.
22 cases were reported in East Khasi Hills, 20 in West Garo Hills, 10 in Ri Bhoi, seven each in North Garo Hills, and East Garo Hills, five each in West Jaintia Hills West Khasi Hills, and East Jaintia Hills, two each in Eastern Western Khasi Hills, South West Garo Hills, and one in South West Khasi Hills.
