SHILLONG, Feb 16: Inviting concern on the deplorable condition of the roads leading to Dainthlen and Nohkalikai, Meghalaya Rural Tourism Forum (MRTF) submitted a petition to the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, Isawanda Laloo on Tuesday.
In the petition submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, MRTF president, Allan West Kharkongor said that the road leading to the two major tourist spots in Sohra are severely dilapidated and have as such, attracted criticism from visitors in the recent past.
“While other roads in the region have been reconstructed through the PMGSY schemes or state projects, the Dainthlen and Nohkalikai roads have been neglected and left unrepaired for years now,” noted MRTF president.
Highlighting the subject of upgradation of the Umtyngar-Sohra road project as well in the petition, Kharkongor observed that the work has ceased as of now, and even the little work done initially was ‘unsatisfactory’ and of ‘poor quality’.
The tourist body has thus sought the intervention of the DC on the improvement of the above-mentioned road, requesting prompt and good quality work for the benefit of locals as well as tourists of the region.
