SHILLONG, Feb 28: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday said the meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the final settlement in six of the 12 areas of differences between Meghalaya and Assam will be held on March 9.
“The meeting will be held in Delhi on March 9 at around 6 pm,” he told reporters two hours after receiving information about the discussion.
No other issue will be discussed in the meeting, he added.
The two states submitted a joint report and joint statement to the Home Ministry a few weeks ago.
Sangma had earlier said the MHA asked the Survey of India and other departments to give a report to them. “I am presuming that the MHA is waiting for those reports to come in and I am sure that in a very short time, the MHA will call us,” he had said.
The proposed meeting between the chief ministers of Meghalaya and Assam with Shah was postponed earlier since the latter was preoccupied with electioneering.
Election of new GHADC CEM as per rules
The chief minister said that the National People’s Party MDCs in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council have proposed the name of Siju-Rongara MDC, Albinush Marak as the new Chief Executive Member.
“The process for the election of the new CEM will take place as per the rules and procedures,” he said, adding that any decision would be in the best interest of the people as well as the council.
