Tura, March 5: Disheartened with the state government’s response to their demand to release their pending salaries, the teachers under the banner of All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA), on Saturday decided to boycott their regular duties for a period of one week starting from March 14, a statement issued here said.
The association said that they will shun all duties, including taking classes, conducting exams, medical duties, training, election duties etc from March 14 for a period of one week if the state government did not clear all their pending salaries by March 11.
“We have our basic needs like food, fuel for vehicles, school fees, electricity and other domestic requirements which we are not able to fulfill due to the non release of five months pending salaries by the state government’, they said.
‘If our dues are not cleared we will go on with the indefinite shutdown of all our duties’, they added.
Meanwhile, the AGHSSASTA condemned a statement posted on social media about them rubbishing the press. On the other hand, they thanked the media for bringing up their voices to the fore and hoped the same would continue in the future as well, the statement said.
