SHILLONG, March 20: The National People’s Party is visibly irked with the BJP over the latter’s alleged decision to keep the former out of the equation during the formation of the new government in Manipur.
The NPP, which has its roots in Manipur, has already extended its support to the N Biren Singh-led government that is likely to take oath in a day or two.
Singh, who has been chosen as the CM for a second term, had earlier made it clear that the NPP will not be with them in the new government.
Rajya Sabha member and NPP state president WR Kharlukhi on Sunday seemed displeased with the saffron party for its decision to dump its former ally. “Every dog has its day. We will see,” Kharlukhi said when asked for his reaction on the issue.
Asked if the development in Manipur will have an impact in Meghalaya where the NPP and the BJP are allies in the MDA, Kharlukhi said that it is the prerogative of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma here just as it is the prerogative of N Biren Singh in Manipur.
Kharlukhi reminded Singh that in 2017, he and his party would have been out of power had the NPP backed the Congress.
Refusing to comment any further, Kharlukhi said, “Eleven months from now you ask me the same question. We will see then.”
The BJP has two members in Meghalaya and is only a minor partner in the ruling dispensation.
