SHILLONG: The Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) is yet to take any action against a school at Tura which had reportedly denied admission to the victim of the Williamnagar gang-rape case.

While stating that the Commission will intimate the matter to the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, MSCW member Gamchi Timre R Marak said, “As of now, we are concerned with the well-being of the girl and not the school.”

She also mentioned that the girl was shifted to Tura from Williamnagar following complaints from the girl’s parents that family members of the accused used to taunt her and on one occasion, the sister of one of the accused had taken photographs of the victim on her cell phone.

“We have coordinated with the District Social Welfare Officer, NGOs and private shelter homes at Tura to relocate the girl,” the MSCW member said on Saturday.

Meanwhile, when contacted West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Pravin Bakshi, said that no such report has come to his notice till date.

He, however, assured that he will check on the reports on Sunday to ascertain the facts and initiate necessary action.
