SHILLONG: Along with the rest of the world, Palm Sunday was celebrated by the Catholic faithful in the city on Sunday to commemorate the visit of the Lord Jesus Christ for the last time to his beloved city of Jerusalem before his crucifixion.

Waving palm leaves and singing hymns, just as it was done nearly two thousand years ago in Jerusalem, the Catholic faithful from all over the State took part in the church procession.
Verses from the Holy Bible that mentioned the events that took place on Palm Sunday were read out while special prayers were offered in various Catholic churches in the city.
This is the most important week in the Christian calendar as it marks the Holy Week which began with the celebration of Palm Sunday followed by Maundy Thursday, to be observed with Holy Mass.
Palm Sunday recalls Jesus’s entry into Jerusalem but the Gospel also recounts how he was betrayed by one of his apostles and ultimately sentenced to death on a cross.
The Christian faithful, from all denominations, will again converge on Friday to observe Good Friday, the day when Jesus was crucified on the cross.
The Holy Week will end with Easter Sunday, which marked the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.
