SHILLONG: The North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) has addressed a letter to the Union Minister in charge of Human Resource Development, Dr. M Pallam Raju opposing the decision of the Delhi University to make Hindi as a compulsory subject in Major Indian Languages (MIL) even as they mentioned that the recent decision is totally unacceptable as it deprives the indigenous students from the North-eastern region to study in the University.
In a letter sent to Dr. M Pallam Raju, the students’ organization has stated that the Delhi University is deviating from its earlier practice to offer the major Indian languages including Alternative English.
NESO reiterated that the decision of the University, if not altered and is allowed to be implemented can be construed as an act of discrimination towards the indigenous peoples of the north-eastern region and also as an act of conspiracy to keep the North East students away from availing the opportunity to study in this prestigious University.
“It is worthwhile to note that India is not a homogenous state; there are many languages and dialects”, the letter further added.
