SHILLONG, April 27: Financial assistance worth Rs 30,000 was provided to local athlete Darisuk Kharwanlang, who was also felicitated by BJP MLA Sanbor Shullai and BJP Mahila Morcha led by Arena Hynniewta.
The monetary aid is to enable her to prepare and participate in the 2nd KGMF National Athlete Championship in the 35 to 80 years category. Darisuk Kharwanlang is 48 years old and a mother of eight children.
According to a statement, she has been actively involved in sports and has bagged several awards. BJP MLA Shullai has promised to take her story to the government in a bid to secure necessary help for her to continue participating in such events.
On the other hand, Arena Hynniewta highlighted the poor state of sporting personnel in the state and urged the government to identify, recognise and support them in every possible way.
