SHILLONG, April 30: The BJP has made an offer to the five suspended Congress MLAs as well as Leader of Opposition, Mukul Sangma of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) and other MLAs, who are not happy with their party, to join its fold.
“We welcome Dr Mukul Sangma, all other AITC members and members of other political parties who are not happy. Our doors are open. We are there to walk together and give clean governance to the people of the state,” senior BJP leader, AL Hek said on Saturday.
He, however, said none of the Congress MLAs has approached the BJP so far.
“If they come, I will open the door myself to the BJP house. It will be a warm welcome,” Hek added.
The decision of the Congress’ central leadership on suspending the five MLAs for three years is unlikely to have any effect on them as they have already set out looking for greener pastures.
They were suspended for extending support to the MDA government where the BJP is a constituent. Earlier, Dr Sangma admitted the BJP had been in constant touch with him and asked him to join the party but he refused.
On the likely teaming up of the AITC and the Congress against the BJP, Hek said, “All political parties have their own roles to play and I have nothing to comment.”
