SHILLONG: The elders of Laitumkhrah have called off the proposed shutdown of shops and business establishments scheduled on Tuesday after getting assurance of security from the Government.

The elders also said that they have decided to withdraw the shutdown following requests from educational institutions.

However, the Laitumkhrah Dorbar Shnong Pyllun maintained that the Dorbar was not involved in the call for shutdown made by some unknown persons.

In a statement issued here on Monday, Laitumkhrah Rangbah Shnong, GM Bruce Sawkmie, reiterated that it would not take any steps that would disrupt normal life.

Sawkmie also said that in an emergency meeting held on April 5, the Executive Committee of the Dorbar had resolved that the law enforcement agencies should bring to book the culprits at the earliest so as to restore confidence in the minds of the people.

The Dorbar also urged the district administration to take immediate steps to ensure peace and tranquility in Laitumkhrah.

Sawkmie also informed that the Dorbar had resolved to disallow all processions, except for religious once, to pass through the Laitumkhrah main road, while adding that the Dorbar will soon write to the authorities on various steps to be taken to maintain peace and harmony in the locality.
